TRAINING

Welcome to the training section of the FISA Web site.

Visitors can look around to see what FISA training is available and how to apply. We have small range of course available for both Operators and Trainers, Simply follow the relevant tab.

The menu on the left hand side will allow you to review the details and course content.

You are able to view individual Courses and make applications on-line.

We have prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions.

Reminder on when refresher courses are required - it is the operator's responsibility to remain complaint:

  • Q: What do I need to do as I approach 5 years after taking a ground based chainsaw qualification? -
A: It will be required that you will have attended a refresher course, or upskilled to a further unit,  prior to the cut-off date of 5 years from attaining the qualification. It will be your responsibility to ensure you remain compliant.
  •  Q: What do I need to do as I approach the 3/5 year term from my last FISA refresher course?
A: It will be required that you will have attended a new refresher course, or upskilled to a further unit,  prior to the cut-off date of 3/5 years from the original FISA refresher. It will be your responsibility to ensure you remain compliant.

FISA and LANTRA+F Trainers -  Chainsaw refresher courses delivered by FISA recognised trainers (FISA Trainers) or Lantra +F instructors will be accepted.  FISA trainers will deliver only FISA refresher courses. Lantra +F instructors will deliver Lantra refresher courses, however, those +F instructors who are also recognised FISA trainers will be able to deliver either. See April 2016 news release.
Certificates will show that modules that have been refreshed will be listed as +F. Only Lantra trainers assessed to +F status will be allowed to deliver the refresher.  These certificates will be issued with a 5-year expiry date for successful contractors.
FISA refreshers will adopt this same expiry period for any future courses, with an additional note stating that HSE and FISA strongly recommend that occasional users of a chainsaw should consider taking a refresher course more frequently, for example every 3 years.
Any Lantra +F refresher certificates issued since the 1st May 2016 will be FISA recognised.

Independent Assessment - There has been some recent debate as to what is classed as 'independent assessment' of Lantra chainsaw courses. The official line is that the Ofqual definition of ‘independent assessment’ is assessment separated from the training, rather than the assessor being a different person to the trainer. Operators who have certificates signed by the same trainer as the person presenting the training are classed as fully compliant with FISA requirements.

If you are registered, but still to attend a FISA Chainsaw Refresher Course, please contact Graeme Hodgson on 07747 038200 or by email training@ukfisa.com to arrange a date and location for your course.
