FISA AGM 2018 - report

14 Feb 2019

Note of the 2018 FISA AGM meeting held during the APF Show on Friday 21st Sept 2018:

FISA Chair Alastair Sandels reminded the small gathering of the need to focus on safety – if timber markets ultimately dictate the rate paid, what are the consequences for safety, health and welfare, especially for contractors?

Andrew Turner of the HSE reminded the meeting of the need to focus on safety.  The current GMHSF is good guidance; but is not always followed.  A refresh of this guidance may help each duty holder to better understand their duty for safety in forestry.  The HSE outlined the HSE inspection campaign visiting fifty forestry sites.  Planning of chainsaw work and site welfare will be reviewed.

FISA Director, Simon Hodgson outlined why the industry needs FISA to ensure that a consistent approach to safety can be followed by all.

The FISA Award winners for 2018 were announced:

Steve Dresser Memorial Award Winner 2018 – awarded D&W Agri timber haulage driver

FISA Safety Award Winner 2018 – awarded to Colin Brolly Forestry
