FISA launch new navigation software

11 Sep 2014

In conjunction with Integrated Skills (UK) Ltd, FISA Working Group 6 (with support from BSW TimberGroup) have been developing some fantastic new hardware and software called RouteSmart Navigator.

RouteSmart Navigator offers an intelligent satellite navigation system designed specifically for the forestry industry. Along with the usual functionality you would expect from a navigation system RS Navigator is packed with additional benefits designed to improve efficiency and driver safety.

The programme will guide vehicles (audibly and visually) along optimised routes or customised road networks such as those found on forestry sites. Site information including parking and turning can be uploaded to ensure the driver is fully informed before their arrival.

Perhaps one of the most exciting developments is the ability to provide safety information as well as hazard alerts such as height and weight restrictions, road subsidence and low hanging branches. Using cellular data, drivers will have the ability to report live hazards as they find them ensuring the safety of others.

RS Navigator operates using GPS which allow users to track vehicles as they progress in their journey. New or modified routes can be sent to the device which allows for better vehicle management.

Similar software is currently in use with other commercial sectors however this will be the first of its kind to be adapted specifically for the Forestry Industry.

A pilot demonstration will be available at the APF event from 18th – 20th September 2014.
