The forest industry is one of the most dangerous sectors in which to work in the UK.
In the five years up to March 2012, there was an average of 10.4 fatalities per 100,000 workers. This is more than three times the fatality rate for the construction industry.
Early in 2012, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) called a safety summit, bringing together stakeholders from across the industry.
The FISA working groups are task orientated expert groups, focusing on specific safety related issues in our industry. The groups comprise a Chairperson and a number of industry or task associated experts. Currently we have a total of 8 groups working on a number of tasks identified by the main Steering Group and our membership. These tasks are seen as the important areas where our industry needs to develop. The objectives, activities and membership of each Working Group can be seen under this heading.
